Steven J. Ellis is a U.S. Army veteran who served in combat in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. Following his military service, he pursued a career in education, earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia. Steven worked as a teacher and team leader with the Charlottesville Department of Education and as an educator at Western State Psychiatric Hospital, gaining experience in instructional leadership and working with diverse populations.

In 1986, Steven transitioned to the Connecticut Department of Corrections, where he served as an administrator until his retirement in 2009. His work in corrections strengthened his skills in leadership, problem-solving, and managing complex operational environments. He is currently a member of the Somers Veterans and Families Ad Hoc Committee.  He is a dedicated veteran and experienced public-service professional, bringing thoughtful insight, discipline, and a strong commitment to community service to the Legacy of Service: Somers Veterans Foundation, Inc.
